3mph: The Adventures of One Woman’s Walk Around the World is really a great read. The scope of the adventure alone makes it interesting but it is also written in a fast paced style that makes you feel like you’re moving right along and not at a walking pace.
There are problems with the story in that you’re reading it in hindsight and I cringed at some of the decisions she made and how she got tangled up with the wrong people or just flat out nutters that could have tanked the project before it even began. I also cringed at some of her depictions of the culture or customs in other countries as a traveler myself. But I’m glad she kept her authentic voice. I’m glad she was so open and honest with her story.
I’m in awe with her adventure. That she had the moxy to plan and carry out something of this magnitude and for five years! It is a stunning and honorable achievement. AND to top it all off she made it her focus to talk and spread the word about breast cancer which also focuses on women’s health literally around the world.
Any one of these things would have made this an interesting read but combining all of them is inspiring and should make a person who reads it want to say – DREAM BIG and never let go of your dream!
