#Review: Letting Go by Maya Banks @Maya_Banks #Erotica
Review may contain spoilers.
I first became aware of Maya Banks in her Colters’ Legacy series. A series that I loved and wanted more to read by this author. I have read several other books by Maya and enjoyed them all.
For me this book just does not ring true in places. Reading about Dash being a Dom is my main problem. He just does not act like Dom’s I have read about in the past. Granted I am comparing this book by another author I thoroughly enjoy reading and I should not do that but from visiting and reading several different BDSM books and websites the Dom is just not there for me.
Dash does not ask or request that he and Joss have a contract. Something on paper that states what will be in their relationship. He jumps in so fast and then it all comes crashing down.
If Dash is a Dom then why does he not have a dungeon? If he is wealthy then for this reader it makes sense that he would have this. Then the sex scenes. Yes they are a little hot but they seem forces. In a true BDSM relationship there are set times set aside for scenes.
Maybe I have read to many books by another author that lives a true BDSM relationship and is willing to show readers what the life is truly like. For this reader the sex was more along the lines of being vanilla with some wild play included.
Then we get to the anal scenes. Really? Did I just read how the author wrote it or was that a mistake? No working up to accepting the size difference? No explaining to the sub (who is new to the lifestyle) what will happen? It just seems like so much was just wrote and to hell with the details. Why is this? Is there a problem with the author doing research? Is there a problem that the author cannot create a sockpuppet account at FetLife to learn about a true BDSM relationship? Sorry For most of the scenes they seem wrote for the vanilla person who knows nothing about the BDSM life.
I am hoping the next books in this series get better.
For now the bunnies and I give this book carrots.
THE FIRST BOOK OF THE SURRENDER TRILOGY
In her sensational Breathless Trilogy, #1 New York Times bestselling author Maya Banks tested the boundaries of desire. In her new trilogy, there’s only one thing left to do: cross them. And never have the consequences of erotic exploration been so irresistibly inviting, so shockingly intimate, and so totally unexpected…
Josslyn found perfection once, and she knows she’ll never find it again. Now widowed, she seeks the one thing her beloved husband couldn’t give her: dominance. Lonely, searching for an outlet for her grief and wanting only a brief taste of the perfection she once enjoyed, she seeks what she’s looking for at an exclusive club that caters to people indulging in their most hedonistic fantasies. She never imagined that what she’d find would be the one man who’s long been a source of comfort—and secret longing. Her husband’s best friend.
Dash has lived in an untenable position for years: in love with his best friend’s wife but unwilling to act on that attraction. He’d never betray his best friend. And so he’s waited in the wings, offering Joss unconditional support and comfort as she works past her grief, hoping for the day when he can offer her more.
When he finds her in a club devoted to the darker edges of desire, he’s furious because he thinks she has no idea what she’s getting herself into. Until she explains in detail what it is she wants. What she needs. As realization sets in, he is gripped by fierce, unwavering determination. If she wants dominance, he is the only man who will introduce her to that world. He is the only man who will touch her, cherish her…love her. And the only man she’ll ever submit to.
